Initial Consultation

First, we need to meet and discuss what your garden goals are. Do you want to build an entire yard from scratch? Do you already have a functioning garden and want to improve its design and layout? Do you have pest infestations you cannot control? Do you have zero experience but the desire to grow your own food? All are good places to start. I am here as your personal garden consultant. For initial consultations, I will need to see your space, take dimensions of your yard, and go over options on how to move forward together. I can also provide you with a full microclimate report for your area. These consultations are great if you are already gardening and growing plants in your home and are needing advice, support, or general consulting for issues that may arise. If you are looking for full assistance in garden design, installation, purchasing and planting, we will still need to do this initial consultation to get you on board as my client and to begin our garden project for your home. Initial consultations are available via Zoom, phone call, FaceTime, or in-person.

Garden Design

After an initial consultation, I offer complete garden design plans to give you the ideal blueprint of how your garden will function based on your space, budget, and microclimate. Along with your initial microclimate report, a complete garden design plan includes a blueprint of your ideal garden layout including where to plant crops (crop rotation), how to companion plant in your garden based on desired plants, and a breakdown of how your budget will be used for supplies.

Assisted installation

Once we have discussed your garden plan and have the design approved and agreed upon, we can schedule an appointment to begin building your garden. Unlike many urban farming companies, I am not here to install everything for you; it’s something we will do together. By assisting you in installing raised beds, irrigation, and other elements of your garden, it will teach you so much more deeply about how your garden functions and how to maintain it longterm. Learning how to set up an irrigation system will provide you with the skills to repair it if there is a leak or the controller malfunctions. Of course, as your consultant, I will be here when troubleshooting arises, but you will be more knowledgable overall, which is the goal. Assisted installation includes a pick-up of lumber and supplies, scheduled time to build beds/install irrigation, a tutorial of how to set up an irrigation controller, and a tutorial on how to fill beds appropriately with soil, compost, and soil amendments.

Assisted planting and supply pick-ups

Once your garden has been installed and is ready for planting, I also offer a full-day tutorial and workshop of how to correctly sow seeds, transplant nursery starts, properly irrigate and fertilize, as well as protect your garden from pests and diseases. This also includes a plant and supply pick up from a local nursery. We will plant together and talk about how to care for your plants throughout the season. When it comes time to change seasons, I also offer an assisted workshop in pulling the last of the seasons’ crops, amending the soil and prepping it for weather change, as well as planting new crops for the next growing season. It is essential to learn how to properly amend your soil, plant intentionally, and irrigate according to weather conditions to keep your garden healthy, which are just a few of the things we will go over during an assisted planting session.

If you already have a flourishing garden, or are well into your build, I am here to be another set of hands! Along with design and coaching, I am available for labor in whatever garden projects your are currently investing in. Whether it be installing irrigation, building swales or garden beds, or you have a big planting day coming up and need another person to assist, I am here for all your gardening needs.

Once a client, always a client! As your personal garden consultant, I will always be available to hire for consultations throughout the year for advice, gardening planning, pest and disease issues, and continuing to maintain your garden to be its healthiest self. If you are wanting to introduce a specific plant into your garden but are not sure of the best place for it, I am here. If every time you grow kale it attracts aphids, I am here. If you just want to nerd out on plants and learn more about what you’re growing, I am here.
